The argument over the legalization of gambling is always brewing somewhere in the United States it seems. Generally it often boils down to an issue of money versus morality.

Gambling with the Good Life is a non-profit organization in Omaha, Nebraska that is fighting on the side of morality. They are protective of their community and have a mission to rid the whole state of Nebraska of legalized gambling. It's not a stance that everyone necessarily supports, but they aren't walking alone.

They fight this particular battle because they know the afflictions that gambling is associated with. The fact that gambling can be highly addictive is no secret. Once a person loses that control of their actions and gives way to addiction, the negative repercussions are plentiful.

Most gambling addicts have that subtle moment where their actions jump from recreational to addictive. When a person starts going to the casino alone, that can be an early warning sign. When a person starts hiding the fact that they are going to the casino alone, addiction has probably already set in. It won't be long before the debt starts piling up. Gambling will replace other recreational activities and eventually interfere with work, family, and friends.

Gambling has long been associated with prostitution, drugs, alcohol, depression, and even suicide. While the addictive nature of the individual seems to be the main contributing factor to all these problems, Gambling with the Good Life is trying to remove the temptation that can be a potential catalyst toward misery and mistakes.

The opposing side may argue that gambling itself is not the problem, but many would question what good a casino provides. Most cities that invite casino gambling into their community do so with financial motivations. Their actions are intended for the good of the city in general, but not necessarily for the good of the people and individuals therein.

Yes, casinos can provide hundreds of jobs. Yes, casinos can flood a city with revenue. The problem though, is that an overwhelming majority of this revenue is being generated, more often than not, by a select minority of the people that gamble in the casino. The addictive gamblers provide the greater portion.

After all is said and done, the price of a casino can far outweigh the rewards. That's the gambler's trouble in a nutshell. The chase after that big prize leaves a trail of wreckage, regret, and debt.
